DAIS and WIERD Present a live Performance by KING DUDE with DJs Minimal Syb and Frankie Teardrop

April 11, 2012

This week WIERD is proud to welcome at long last the great T.J. Cowgill aka KING DUDE for a live performance at midnight! Ryan from DAIS and I have been tryin to get the master of west coast apocalyptic lonerwave across the lost highway of this abstract land forever, and last night the shadowy, restrained VRanger himself fell off his drunken horse and landed on a flight from Seattle for a wild one night stand in the WIERD. T.J.'s latest fantastic full-legth out on DAIS this past November entitled Love was one of the most triumphantly sad and chillingly cryptic releases of last fall, and has seemingly re-energized the broken spirit of the darkened folk tradition. Somehow combining the oft-tired Noddy-bleak romanticism of the English tradition with an optimistic blast of pure outsider heat-seeking affectation-less on-yr-knees Americana, King Dude feels like a much needed breath of icy life blown through the black ice. Imagine if Douglas Pearce cast John Fahey, Johnny Cash, and a young Tony Wakeford post Swastikas for Jenny Craig in one of his lovingly filthy Aussie adult dramas, and the eminently stoic and handsome lovechild somehow escaped with some semblance of both his manhood and liver intact with Lawrence from Felt in tow on guitar...please come on down and meet the major Dude who also brought you Actual Pain, crooning and backed by a full band in the WIERD World tonite.
