Well all of us in the WIERD have been quite spoiled the past few months by the VResence of a fantastic new icy windfall of female fronted wave groups with an undeniably Very Rare cold psychedelic flair, needless to say its been an amazing time to be in New York to witness the likes of recent shows by Tamaryn, Religious to Damn, Pharmakon, and Further Reductions all in the past 8 weeks! The pleasure storm of inordinately elegant and talented young ladies of the night is only speeding up in the coming weeks though I'm proud to say with upcoming performance by Amazon Dart, the return of Further Reductions next week, and just announced on August 12th WIERD will present the debut performance by Brooklyn's newest edition to the Femme Fatalelectronic lexicon - the mysterious new group known simply as CHRISTINE...VR, rumors have it certain members of N. Antolik are involved in this one...we shall see...This new wave of killer femme-noire bands have spanned the gap between the swirling cold guitar-inflected, Vague Froide inspired 'gypsy wave' on the one hand and the long-overdue return of the sound of classic minimal electronics on the south pole where the KR-55 as hot as ever!...think we'd all agree after Ms. Katie Rose's floor torchin debut DJ set last week, we're all burnin up with GATO NEGRO LOVE :)))

So this week WIERD is proud to welcome the newest addition to this fragile, frigid wing of the WIERD World - the lovely Ms. Nika Roza Danilova aka ZOLA JESUS for a live performance at midnight! Nika's chilling echo-encrusted recordings entirely bridge the gap between the soaring history of Cold Synth Wave and the aggressive new fuck all lo-fi/no-fi-electronic sound floodin the outskirts of warehouse-everywhere/BKNY these days - one can hear the ghostly spirits of everything from KAS Product to Diamanda Galas to a young Kate Bush...all ultimately bowing down to the queen of all darkness herself the late Nico, sure to be haunting the depths of the WIERD fog this week through Ms. N. For this particular performance we're in for an extra special edition of ZJ live as Nika will be backed up by none other than our beloved Dr. A. Death Domain from dark synth Baltimore on synth!...so bring yr new firce leather surgical gloves and do yr parasitological homework as the Cold Russian winds are gonna shine black as all WIERD Hell tomorrow night!

This WIERD is dedicated to anyone who has ever texted yourself to remember something when you were wasted, and then you lost your phone and woke up and remembered it anyway...VR!!!

We're very excited to welcome the long overdue return to the party our old friend and a figure that can only be referred to as seminally important to the history of East Coast power electronics and industrial music Mr. Jonathan Canady of the legendary Deathpile, Dead World, Angel of Decay etc! Rumors have been circulating for quite some time that Jonathan and his companion the lovely Ms. Susy Q.have been down in the frozen cold basement in dark synth Pennsylvania pioneering a new sound departing from Angel of Decay's analogue terror that rocked the VR World on the WIERD Compilation Volume II - and one which we've now heard being called everything from 'Maximal Synth' music to 'Power-less Electronics' to 'Powersynthtronics'...needless to say the critics are at a Very Rare loss for words as to what IT is :)))...in which case yours Very Rarely would officially like to deem this new genre of electronic music SEXUAL ELECTRONICS!!!

With this said o lovely young children of the cold, it is with pleasure that this week WIERD welcomes the first ever live performance of SEXUAL ASSAULT RIFLE at midnight! Fans of the undeniably VRerotique sounds of the likes of Robert Turman, Epee du Bois, the early drummachine encrusted experiments of Lustmord, SPK, and Portion Control, the Cold Meat Industry all-stars, Les Joyaux de la Princesse...and something even sounds to me like the late Soft Cell circa 'Down in the Subway' et all if Mark's head was duct-taped shut, held down and smothered on the trax by a big dirty hot pink lace-lined pillow...ooooh my aren't you tho curious???

This week WIERD proudly welcomes the ever-expansive, internally cosmological world of the amazing Micki Pellerano for an epic live performance of his long-awaited new work of frozen hot musical theatre entitled 'The Eleusinian Mysteries' at Midnight! Combining the ethos of the DIY-spirited baroque films and performances from the likes of Jack Smith, Kenneth Anger, and Derek Jarman with the hedonistic musical accompaniment of seminal ritualistic industrial pioneers such as Crash Worship, Test Department, and Sigilum S, The WIERD recently discovered Micki's work through his most recent exhibition of drawings(one of which is depicted on the flier attached here) and short films 'By Sapphire and Sword' in Brooklyn a few months ago, and Micki kindly scripted this new work specifically for the Very Rare World of the WIERD which will undoubtedly be something unlike anything we have ever had the pleasure of presenting.

By way of introduction to this particular piece, Micki tells me that THE ELEUSINIAN MYSTERIES is a performance based on the codices discovered at Nag Hammadi. Ancient cosmogonies illustrated through titans birthing warlike, androgynous offspring metaphorically explore the origins of the world and the immense psychic shifts taking form in the human psyche. Live score by SKIN DRINK (featuring members of DAIS recording artists Cult of Youth, Whip & the Body, and Total Abuse). Also this week WIERD will be celebrating the VRirthday of our fave mysterious and ever Gender-Dysphoric pleasure-seeker PRE-OP TRANS! As many of you closest to Georgette know, for years now she has been very patiently and rigorously preparing to leave us all and her old fleshly encasement for a new life in the body she has always so passionately desired, and now she is so close to FINALLY being able to afford the operation which is as of yesterday scheduled for Wed. August 12th...(and no kids I'm so sorry to say its not in the WIERD but in Bangcock darlings...). As a way of making Georgette's dream of purely unbridled sexual freedom come true, all proceeds from the $5 cover charge this week at WIERD will go directly towards Georgette's surgery...so please if you feel it in your heart give to the Very Rare cause and help set a beautiful young girl FREE - YOU GO (GIRL?)!!!

Its with immense pride and excitement that I announce the arrival of this day which many of us in the WIERD World have waited for for a long time, as this Wednesday evening May 27th WIERD Records presents the official NYC release party for the debut album by our beloved Blacklist entitled Midnight of the Century! As we have so often paraphrased one of our many philosophical heroes Spinoza who once said 'All great things are truly difficult and rare...' I would add to this belief that this record has also proven creating such things also requires a tremendous amount of sweat, blood and struggle to complete in an absolutely uncompromised way, and this massively uplifting sonic tornado of cold guitar pleasure is most certainly no exception :)))

This week at the WIERD Party we will host an open rum and vodka bar from 10:30-11:30 at which time we will play Midnight of the Century in its entirety, to be followed by a FREE champagne toast at midnight for everyone commencing a long lovely evening with our two of our ever-unfailingly supportive guest DJs Patrick(of Salvation, Necromantic, and the Albion Parties) and Frankie Teardrop(Exotic Birds Party, Revel Hotel). I hope everyone who has long followed the band and WIERD will come out this week, as above all we really all want to thank you for all your support and interest over the years...the rarest of the very rare indeed!

Hello young children of the cold...did everyone live through last week in the WIERD World??? Seriously what a fantastic few days it was between the Pre-No Fun Celebration at the weekly party followed by 3 solid days of the most intense new experimental synth, wave, and industrial/noise acts at the Festival at The Music Hall of Williamsburg we're all quite spoiled right now in NYC. Of course congratulations to Carlos G. and everyone over at No Fun for keepin the fest goin all these years, maybe some of you also as I did felt the melancholy setting in after the final performance Sunday night knowing this is the last one the US will see as NFF sadly moves permanently overseas from here on...alas...needless to say thanks to everyone for coming out last Wed. as well as Fri. to support our VReloved Xeno & Oaklander's performance, along with the likes of Yellow Tears, Grey Wolves, Sons of God, and Mattin in the house it was quite a weekend! COLD CINEMA: FILMS BY LIZ WENDELBO
'Opticks I - XIV'

Born in the dark era that is the new millennium in New York City, the 'Cold Cinema' of Liz Wendelbo is a return to analogue film. Originating from the NYC Minimal Electronics music scene (Xeno & Oaklander), Liz Wendelbo engages in a form of filmmaking that predicates resistance to cinema as a virtual medium. Her latest work is a series of short three-minute films entitled 'Opticks'. Her films explore themes of darkness, rituals, Gothic iconography and film as a medium, with melancholy and restraint. With a fondness for obsolete technology, she uses 16mm and double 8 as her shooting medium of choice, in color and black and white.
'Opticks' is structured in a modular way: the short films are numbered one through fourteen and are interchangeable. Three sections surface overall the abstract optical experiments of the 'Maxwell Tartan Ribbon' series (A 19th century Scottish physicist, Maxwell projected the first color photograph using Newton's color theory in 1861 - the image was a tartan ribbon); the dance and movement based Gothic Rituals series; and the 'film-as-historical document' framework of World War II, industrial and personal found footage of the 'Excavation' and 'Columns' series.

I'm very happy to say I just received the first shipment of Chris and Kirti's debut CDr Compilation release on their just established Ligurian Records Label! In anticipation of the band's debut LP which they are set to begin recording in a few weeks this first readily aVRailable collection of songs entitled 'The Brutal Wave Demo' includes nearly all the bands recorded trax to date including those included on both 'The Brutal Wave'(2007) and 'Decontrol'(2008) demo tapes and CDrs as well as 3 new songs! For all who's stomaches were pumped with boiling blood a few weeks ago whem Mistress M. of Pharmakon took the stage scaring a much needed dirty raw fuck into you all, this week the other monsters from the killer new Far Rockaway scene are gonna make you wanna rip that cold black blob outa yr rotting chest and slide it back up inside yrself...over and over forever...and this isn't any of that relentlessly tedious hippyster brainburnwave nonsense which generally amounts to ill-sophist attempts to 'dude lets get baked in our skinny jeans and make some dope jams on daddy's wierd black boxes from the 70s, who knows how those bunk things work yo waddup?...', its the real deal - dark, old-school industrial-informed, pulsing, emotionally spacial, slowly crafted and composed trax! WIERD is proud to announce that Martial Canterel's new cassette release 'Cruelty Reigns Through Ages' is now available from our old friend and WIERD Compilation Volume II artist Greh Holger's Chondritic Sound label in Ann Arbor, Michigan! In anticipation of the new Martial Canterel studio LP coming later this year, this release represents a final gathering together of various lost and unreleased trax from 2003-2007. Two versions of the cassette are available: a deluxe 2 x cassette edition(cat# ch-216x) which is packaged in a 5"x5" box with art on most surfaces (inside & out), inserts & additional information, the cassettes wrapped in lace and scented. This version comes with a bonus C30 cassette with 9 extra trax! A standard 12 track C50 edition of this release is also available(cat# ch-216). Both versions are extremely limited to 100 copies each and will most likely be sold out in the next few days. After an entire year in production we're proud to say the 'Wierd Compilation Volume II : Analogue Electronic Music 2008' will be available May 15th. More details, tracklist, and MP3 soundclips of the 4 LP +32 page book vinyl package can be found on the 'New Releases' page of the website and the entire collection can be downloaded in digital format as a 2 x CD collection from ITunes beginning on the release date. In addition we have uploaded side 1 of the compilation onto the player on the Wierd Records MySpace page, and we will continue to upload the LP sides in order every three weeks for your Very Rare listening pleasure. The Compilation will make its public debut in Germany on Sunday May 11th on DJ Plastikmann of the Neon Welt Festival's 'Frequent Waves' weekly radio program from 18:00-20.00 hrs(12noon-2pm EST time) and will then be archived which you can listen to here: www.frequent-waves.blogspot.com in a full 2 hour special on the Wierd Records label.

Thanks to everyone who came out to support this Very Rare WIERD evening! Never thought I'd live to see the day when 425 people would come from all over the country to hear minimal electronic and experimental industrial music on the best new massive sound system in New York City, pretty clear there's great and exciting hope for this music to have a real presence in this country finally I really feel ! Couldn't believe it when after inspired by Wolf Eyes' mindblowing 28 minute set Eric jumped up on stage and grabbed Sean from Martial Canterel's Roland SH101 and played the ABC melodies live with 2 encores, sent chills all down our spines, truly inspiring to see frozen cold analogue electronics blazing the night away...think everyone could really 'feel it inside'!
